A $20,000 prize will be awarded to each golf player who hits a hole-in-one on the 17th green during The Family YMCA’s Annual Golf Classic on Friday, August 27, at Los Alamos Golf Course.
Round trip domestic air travel for two, a Sharp LED Smart TV, and Callaway Irons (3-PW) are hole-in-one prizes at holes 2, 6 and 15 respectively, said Y CEO Chris Daniels.
The tournament starts at 9 am at the Los Alamos Golf Course. It is subtitled the Emily McGay Memorial, in honor of a former, 9-year Y CEO, who passed away in February.
Players may register online through the Los Alamos Golf Association, or they may fill out a form and take it to the Y at 1450 Iris St.
Daniels said that every player also is entered into a drawing for a 2-night play and stay at Pagosa Springs, lodging provided thanks to Lance Eaton of Exit Realty.
“Our sponsors and players are essentially donating to help us provide financial aid scholarships to 200 children and 100 adults in our programs, and our merchants support that cause by donating prizes as well,” he said. “The Y’s tournament is known for having fun games of chance along the course, earning players more raffle tickets for prize drawings. Additionally, we have great prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, longest putt, cash for net score winners and high value gift certificates thanks to our local merchants.
“We couldn’t do this without caring individuals and the business community. We are grateful to Platinum sponsors Sam and Shay Kendricks, Dr. Paul and Linda Daly, Pig + Fig Bakery and Café, New Mexico Bank & Trust, Lou Santoro State Farm Insurance and Roger Waterman.”
Daniels expressed gratitude for other sponsors including Fidelity Investments from Albuquerque, Karen Easton, Plateau Property Management, Los Alamos Children’s Dentistry, Infinite BBQ, Wiemann Wealth Strategies/Raymond James®, Jill Cook, Viola’s and Northern New Mexico College.
He said he is grateful for the local business who have donated gift certificates, including Fleur de Lys, El Parasol, Origami Restaurant, Yuan’s Dumpling and Noodle House, Papa Murphy’s, Trader Joe’s Grocery Store, Metzgers, Connie’s Over Your Head and Boese Brothers.
ABOUT THE Y:
The Family YMCA is a charitable, nonprofit organization that was started in 1955 by volunteers who recognized the need for a place for families to recreate together. In 2007, City of Española administrators awarded the Y a contract and partial funding to provide a teen center as a resource for community youth. In 2011, Los Alamos County awarded the Y a contract to operate a center locally. In 2020, the Y awarded $40,000 in scholarships to 73 individuals (23 of which were youth in child care programs) so all could have access. The Y traditionally awards $120,000 in scholarships to 300 individuals (200 of which are children), and anticipates providing this aid again once the pandemic is over.
