The unofficial results for the 2020 General Election in Los Alamos County were released Tuesday night. In addition to casting votes for national races, Los Alamos voters elected several local and state representatives.

The unofficial results of local and state races, as reported on the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website, include the following:

For County Council, Denise Derkacs, Dem., was elected with 5,652 votes, Sean Williams, Dem., was elected with 4,845 votes and David Reagor, Rep., was elected with 4,962 votes.

Other candidates include Aaron Walker, Ind., who received 3,565 votes, James Rickman, Lib., who got 3,950 votes, and Rodney Roberson, Dem., who received 4,260 votes.

In the race for State Representative of District 43, Christine Chandler, Dem., was reelected with 9,820 votes. She ran against David Hampton, Rep., who received 6,205 votes.

Finally, Naomi Maestas, Dem., was reelected to serve as Los Alamos County Clerk. She ran unopposed and received 8,224 votes.

Winners of the local and state elections expressed their appreciation and excitement Wednesday to the Los Alamos Daily Post:

Chandler “I very much appreciate the strong level of support from the Los Alamos community as well as the rest of the district,” Chandler said. “I look forward to returning to the New Mexico House and I pledge to do so in the spirit of unity and respect for all viewpoints.  In this time of extraordinary division in the country, each one of us must take responsibility for changing the tenor of the dialogue. To that end I am committed to listening and working collaboratively with my constituents and colleagues in the Legislature.”

Maestas “I am extremely humbled and appreciative to those that put their trust and belief in me, and I am very honored to do what I love and believe in for another four years,” Maestas said. “I find myself very fortunate and look forward to the future and continued progress of the office!”

Reagor “First of all I want to thank my supporters; they did so much work … people were doing a lot of things for me … people were working very hard for me … that was most the exciting part of the election …,” Reagor said. “I am looking forward to working on some of the issues (in the County). We got some areas that are looking like ghost towns and I am looking forward to making a more business friendly environment and I know there are people on council who are eager to do that, too.”

Williams “I’m proud to have been chosen to represent Los Alamos and White Rock on the county council,” Williams said. “I’m committed to making the County responsive to citizens’ needs, so whenever they issue me an email address, you should always feel free to reach out to me. I’ll also try and sort out a way of making myself available in person, in a way that protects public health. I remain committed to the ideals and projects I laid out on the campaign trail, and will continue to do everything I can for this county. Thanks again for the opportunity to represent you!”

Derkacs “I am sincerely thankful for the support from the community in the recent election, especially for those who voted for me, those who wrote letters on my behalf, those who contributed to my campaign, and those who volunteered to make phone calls, send text messages, post yard signs, and more. I look forward to serving on the County Council, on behalf of the residents of Los Alamos County, to plan for housing development and responsible growth, to promote commercial sustainability that enables our small businesses to thrive, and to upgrade our community services to support growth and preserve our quality of life.”
