COMMUNITY News:

The annual White Rock July 4th celebration will be held again this year at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 366 Grand Canyon.

The Children’s Parade begins after a brief flag ceremony at 10 a.m. and singing of the national anthem. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from various area units will lead the parade carrying the colors.

Children of all ages will follow.  Children are encouraged to dress up, decorate their bicycles, wagons, tricycles, etc. and join in the fun. The parade will be escorted by the Los Alamos Police and Fire Departments. The parade route is less than ½ mile and will begin and end at the Church parking lot.

A carnival will follow the parade on the shady back lawn of the church. All games, prizes, refreshments, and visiting are free. There will be balloons, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, and ice water for everyone. The carnival will end shortly after noon.

This tradition began more than 35 years ago as a small family neighborhood celebration in White Rock and has grown to involve around 1,000 people each year. Everyone is invited to come, participate and feel the spirit of our great country as we celebrate the birthday of the U.S.A.
