This is the last fishing report for the 2021-2022 season. The 2022-2023 season begins Friday and ends March 31, 2023 of next year.
Anglers will need to purchase their new license either online or at license vendors across the state. Be sure to review the Rules and Regulations for the 2022-2023 season for any changes from the previous season. Do not assume they will remain the same.
March is definitely going out like a lamb this year, with record-breaking heat this past week. Some much-needed moisture will finish off the month. This year’s snowpack looks good but not great. Several great years are needed to help fill our reservoirs which are already low thanks to years of drought.
Nearly all the lakes in Northern New Mexico are free of ice. I expect Eagle Nest Lake to open up within the next two weeks. High elevation lakes like Hopewell Lake and Cabresto Lake often stay frozen throughout April and lose their ice the first two weeks of May.
Try to not let the soaring price of gasoline deter you from exploring our state’s lakes, rivers and streams.
