Staff Report

A water pipe burst this morning on the tank directly behind the homes where Fairway and 47th Street meet off of the Trinity Drive side of the Western Area neighborhood.

“We woke up to a loud and unusual sound and looked back toward County land and could see that large volumes of water were shooting put of a large pipe,” said resident KayLinda Crawford, advertising manager at the Los Alamos Daily Post. “We walked just behind our house and could see water rapidly draining onto the County’s jeep trail between the leaking tank and the homes on 47th Street.”

Crawford said the water was running down into Los Alamos Canyon and coming out just west of the ice rink.

“It’s creating quite a waterfall as it drains down Los Alamos Canyon,” she said.

County crews are on the scene and at this time the water is easily passable on the road, but may become icy, so motorists should proceed with caution or if possible, avoid the area altogether.
