Voices Of Los Alamos Meets Monday, Sept. 25

Voices of Los Alamos will hold its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 at the Unitarian Church.

Voices of Los Alamos is a progressive political activism group created for Los Alamos residents to voice their concerns over current political events (both at the state and at the federal level) and give people a space to gather together, discuss and form action plans.

The membership is inclusive; everyone is welcomed to attend the meeting.

Agenda items for the upcoming meeting include: 

Immigration proclamation passed, what’s next? The Public Education Department has put out new proposed changes to the NM science standards and they are OUTRAGEOUS. The public hearing is 9 a.m. to noon, Oct. 16 in Mabry Hall at the Jerry Apodaca Education Building, 300 Don Gaspar Ave. in Santa Fe.

Sheriff’s Office: Sheriff Marco Lucero has sued the Los Alamos County Council; updates.

Affordable housing and vacant houses: Councilors suggest attending council hearing and making public comments. Next month Paul Andrus, director of Community will speak.

Gun legislation: Tarin Nix, political strategist, will speak as will Stephanie Hainsfurther and Maggie Byers from Moms Demand Action for Gun Safety.
