Melissa Colgin Abeln, DMA, a recent transplant to Santa Fe, held major career posts as flute professor at the University of Texas – El Paso (1987-2018) and principal flutist and periodic soloist with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra (1993-2020). Her education includes the BM from at the University of Alabama (Sheryl Cohen), MM and DMA at the University of Texas at Austin (Torkil Bye, Karl Kraber), and a year of private study in Paris, France with Raymond Guiot.
She continues to teach and present the concept of mapping music for memorization (www.memorymapformusic.org). Since arriving to New Mexico, Colgin Abeln has accrued a small private studio and established an adult flute choir, the Santa Fe Flutes.
