Los Alamos Veterans of Foreign Wars gathered last week to honor local Scout of the Year Shaeon Johnson who went on to win the VFW New Mexico Department competition, which is the state level for Scout of the Year. Johnson was judged in academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, demonstrated  leadership, scouting record, community service and the content of letters of recommendation. Judges were seeking evidence of exceptional character, exceptional leadership qualities, willingness to accept responsibility, self-confidence, patriotism and respect for authority. Johnson was honored at the Department conference where he received a check for $100. The local VFW Post and Auxiliary each presented him with a $100 check.
