COMMUNITY News:

The Valle Grande Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), held its first Genealogy Workshop Saturday, Oct. 11, at SALA Los Alamos Event Center.

Every year, the NSDAR celebrates its birthday, Oct. 11, by offering a day of community service.

Guest speakers at the Oct. 11 event included Valle Grande Chapter Secretary Roberta Day Idzorek, Ron Smith of Los Alamos, and Henrietta Martinez Christmas, a published author of numerous articles and books on the Spanish Colonial History in New Mexico. In 2021, she was awarded the Encomienda de la Orden de Isabela Católica Award by King Felipe of Spain for her accomplished research and history of Spanish Colonial New Mexico. Guest speaker Eileen Rhine holds a Certificate in Genealogy from Boston University and has completed several other genealogical education courses. She serves as president of the Santa Fe County Genealogical Society.

Genealogy Workshop topics included basic genealogy, online resources, using the census records, and DNA use in Genealogy.
