Utilities Board Taps Tim Glasco to Lead Los Alamos DPU

Tim Glasco

Board of Public Utilities Vice Chair Chris Ortega announced today that the Board selected Tim Glasco to lead the Department of Public Utilities, as Utilities Manager.

The Board’s selection will go to Los Alamos County Council April 29 for approval. If approved, Glasco will replace Utilities Manager John Arrowsmith who plans to retire from the Department in July.

Approximately 25 applications from around the country were received for the Utilities Manager position. Applications were screened by the Board, the Council Liaison and County Administrator Harry Burgess.

This group narrowed the applications down to five finalists, all of whom work for Los Alamos County.

The candidates were interviewed by three panels:

  • Panel 1 – Board of Public Utilities including the Council Liaison and County Administrator;
  • Panel 2 – Los Alamos County senior staff; and
  • Panel 3 – Three Los Alamos citizens.

“We were fortunate that we had a pool of five outstanding applicants within the County from which to choose. Each candidate was impressive and well qualified and I want to thank them personally for agreeing to lead the Department in this important position,” Ortega said. “After much deliberation, we are confident that Tim will be an excellent Utilities Manager.”

Glasco has worked for the DPU since 1995 and is responsible for operation of the natural gas distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, and water production and distribution systems. He holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Microbiology and Civil Engineering as well as a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Sanitary Engineering). A licensed Professional Engineer and certified as a Level IV Wastewater and Water Systems Operator, Glasco has more than 30 years of experience in municipal and public works engineering and management. He and his wife Charla moved to Los Alamos in 1990 and raised their four daughters in the Los Alamos community.
