University of Texas Board of Regents voted 4-3 Monday to authorize a bid for the Los Alamos National Laboratory management and operations contract.
Four regents voted in favor, three voted against, Chairman Sara Martinez Tucker opted not to vote and the ninth regent was unavailable by phone for the vote. In September, the Board voted unanimously to spend $4.5 million on preparing for proposal which must be turned in to the National Nuclear Safety Administration by Dec. 11.
University of California and Texas A&M University regents have already announced that they will be submitting a bid for the contract. Texas A&M is the alma mater of Secretary of Energy Rick Perry.
