Leia Barela Roach will present a forum called, “Parallel Conversations: A Los Alamos, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Retrospective” at the Second Sunday Forum at noon on Sunday, July 12, at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos at 1738 North Sage St.
Roach was born and raised in Los Alamos. She holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Japanese Studies. From 2019 to 2023, she lived in Kyoto, Japan. For two years she worked on her Master’s in Fine Art at the Kyoto University of the Arts Global Seminar Program. Roach stayed for two more years to enroll in language school while gathering information for projects related to the nuclear legacies of Japan and the USA.
Back in Los Alamos, Roach continued her work with a new perspective on her hometown after an absence of four years. She invites all to hear about her time in Japan and invites dialogue about understanding and maintaining peace in our lives.
The public is invited to attend this forum. There will be a question and answer period following the formal presentation.
The Second Sunday Forum program endeavors to educate the public about issues that affect the community and to provide opportunities for exploration. The Forum is independent of the religious mission of the church.
