Residents of Los Alamos, White Rock and Española should have received the UNM-LA Community Education schedules for Summer 2015 in their mailboxes by now.
The schedules also are available in area newsstands as well as online at http://losalamos.unm.edu/community-education/index.html.
Parents will be excited to see the class lineup for the popular UNM-LA Summer Program for Youth, which has been expanded to include hands-on STEM related learning activities for children entering the first through tenth grades.
Children’s College, serving children entering the first through the third grades, offers Adventures at the University and runs July 13-17, with five half-day classes, meeting 8 a.m. to noon. The sessions will include topics such as astronomy, chemistry, nutrition fun and art.
Also running July 13-17, 1-5 p.m., is Youth College, which is designed for children entering the fourth through sixth grades. Youth College will feature several hands-on learning sessions including Chemistry in the Kitchen, Drawing and Color Theory Basics, Robotics, and University Explorations, which will explore astronomy, art and the ever-popular rocketry class.
Finally, Teen College, for students entering the seventh through tenth grades, will engage kids with a wide variety of classes such as Cyber Security, Cartooning, Game Design, Biotechnology, Engineering, and Digital Movie Making. Teen College runs 1-5 p.m. July 27-31.
The Summer Term at UNM-LA is not just about kids. UNM-LA Community Education offers a wide variety of classes for lifelong learners of all ages including health and fitness, language, art and humanities, photography, fly fishing and personal finance.
UNM-LA also has partnered with The Center for Legal Studies to offer classes preparing students to take the MBA entrance exam, and GMAT, GRE, LSAT and SAT/ACT exams. Students can also earn their Paralegal and Legal Secretary Certificates, study Intellectual Property Law, and take a Legal Nurse Consultant training course.
