The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) Community Education Department is offering the class “The Art of the Critique,” meeting 6-7:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays for two weeks, July 9-18.
In this course, Carol MacLeod, who publishes as Lynn Crain, will discuss the basics of critiquing for personal review and for peer review. Participants will examine approaches to critical assessment by considering genre and writing basics.
Multi-published, award-winning author McLeod has participated in critique groups throughout the years. She writes full time, weaving contemporary, fantasy, futuristic and paranormal tales.
MacLeod has been accepted to the Institute of American Indian Arts Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program beginning this fall. “It has been said that everyone is a critic, but in writing, critical analysis takes on a completely different meaning,” MacLeod said. “Critical evaluation is vital when writing for publication.”
This non-credit Community Education class fee is $35. Register for “The Art of the Critique” online at losalamos.unm.edu/community-education or call Mike Katko, Program Coordinator for Community Education at 662-0332 for more information.
