UNM Real Estate has announced the sale of the two apartment complexes in Los Alamos that formerly served as student housing for UNM-Los Alamos.
The sale, to local Los Alamos buyers, followed numerous discussions with UNM Real Estate, UNM Board of Regents, UNM-LA Advisory Board, and UNM-LA regarding potential use of the aging property.
UNM, as a state agency, was bound by state procurement limitations that imposed cost prohibitive regulations and prevented the campus from implementing much needed renovations. The sale of the properties will allow the private sector to determine the best use of the property.
“We are pleased that the sale of the property has been finalized,” UNM-LA CEO Dr. Cindy Rooney said. “UNM-LA was no longer able to utilize the existing property and the decision by UNM to sell the property will allow everyone to move forward.”
The UNM-LA campus continues to attract students who request assistance with housing. Helping students succeed academically, in a community that provides opportunities for students after they graduate, benefits students and the economic vitality of Los Alamos. Students who are interested in housing may contact Kathryn Vigil in Student Services at UNM-LA to discuss various options with local property management companies who can help students find affordable housing.
