UWNNM YOUTH TEAM News:
My name is Ally Edelmann, one of the Los Alamos United Way Youth Team co-chairs for 2015.
Our Youth team is about to hold one of our best events, “Taste the Sky”, 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 on the tarmac at Los Alamos County Airport As chairs, Emily Hopkins and I would be honored and privileged to have you and your families participate in United Way by donating to the cause.
In case you did not know before, United Way is a nonprofit organization that contributes to the Community Action Fund and helps to support local organizations that benefit our public. For example, the past two years, the Youth Team has funded the Los Alamos High School Link Crew, which is a peer-to-peer mentoring program that helps to create a sense of community and fellowship between the upper and lower classes.
Without your help, we would not be able to start programs like Link Crew in our schools or make other positive impacts in our town for youth. Support all of the good that United Way Youth Team does by enjoying the unique community dining events we offer this Fall!
Our very first event of the year, Dinner Over Diamond, was a huge success and we were pleased to see the amount of people involved in helping the community of youth. This year we will be hosting three more events: Taste the Sky Sept. 27, High Tea on the Hill Oct. 18, and Hamburger Night Oct. 26. We are thrilled to present these events to you, and our producers will give you more information on their individual events. Thank you for all of your support in the Youth Team’s efforts to support Los Alamos.
Hello, my name is Akane Dunn and I am part of the United Way Youth Team of Northern New Mexico as well as the project manager for Taste the Sky. I am very excited to be able to present this event to the community in a couple of days!
Taste the Sky will be a wonderful opportunity for the community to enjoy a unique dining experience, travel around the world in 80 minutes, and to savor flavors from around the world as well as being able to see a display of airplanes, helicopters, and hot air balloons. We are lucky to have Secret City Kitchen cater some amazing food and the United Way Youth Team is very eager to serve all of our guests and the community.
The event 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 on the tarmac at Los Alamos County Airport. Admission for adults is $20 and $10 for students and children. All of the proceeds go straight to local youth programs such as Link Crew at the high school and a Youth Resource Advocate at the middle school. We hope to see everyone there to taste the sky! And be sure to keep a look out for the upcoming United Way Youth Team events this fall.
