United Way Shares Resources for Furloughed Federal Employees

UWNNM News:

While an agreement has been reached to end the government shutdown, it must still pass the House and Senate.

In the mean time, the uncertainty of Los Alamos National Laboratory and other surrounding government agencies are causing stress and anxiety in the community. So United Way of Northern New Mexico has begun collecting information about resources available for federal employees on furlough. Visit (www.UnitedWayNNM.org) for an up to date collection of resources available. Anyone facing a financial crisis that will limit access to food or ability to pay utilities bills may call 2-1-1.

Self Help guides callers to the resources they need.

Family Strengths provides family programs.

The Family YMCA is offering classes and membership deals for stress relief.

Los Alamos National Bank has set up a program for short term financial relief.

These are just a few examples of resources on the United Way website. Organizations offering assistance to furloughed employees should contact  www.UnitedWayNNM.org/Contact-Us or call 505.662.0800.
