Unitarian Church Sponsors Community Seed Swap

UCLA News:

The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos (UCLA) is sponsoring a community-wide seed swap beginning the first Sunday of February and continuing through the spring, for as long as seeds last.

A table will be set out in the shady section of the foyer just inside the front doors, and packets of seeds, donated by church members and friends, will be available for free for any interested community gardeners. Attendees need not bring seeds of their own to participate, although they are welcome to leave  seeds for others to use.

Envelopes, labels and writing materials will be provided to the public.

Please join us and invite friends to participate. If you know of someone new to the community who would like to start a garden, this is a good way to find locally-saved seeds.

Here are some useful guidelines:

  • Bring only packets of seeds you wish to give away entirely. You may not get any back.
  • Take only enough seeds you can plant in one growing season.
  • If you are sharing seeds you’ve saved from your own garden, please mark them clearly with the name of the plant and the year from which they were saved. Older seeds typically have lower germination rate.

We hope you’ll enjoy sharing and acquiring seeds for greater bio-diversity in your garden.

  • 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Weekdays (except Tuesdays)
