Unitarian Church Presents Jim Scott In Concert

Singer-songwriter Jim Scott

Singer-songwriter Jim Scott brings his “Pete Seeger Songfest” to the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos at 7 p.m. Friday, July 15 at 1738 N. Sage St. Admission is $15 at the door.

Scott’s concert in Los Alamos will focus on the music of the late folk legend, Pete Seeger. Scott collaborated on many projects with Seeger, and leads a celebration of Seeger’s and his own songs of earth, justice and peace. A prolific composer in his own right, Scott’s guitar skill and infectious manner brought Seeger to call him “some kind of magician.”

Formerly a member of the Paul Winter Consort, Scott was co-composer of their celebrated “Missa Gaia/Earth Mass” and sang their anthem song “Common Ground.” He has toured the world, recorded a number of CDs of original music and published a growing line of choral works.

A co-creator of the “Green Sanctuary” program for churches to become more sustainable, Scott also compiled the “Earth and Spirit Songbook,” an anthology of more than 100 songs of earth and peace. He has been artist in residence or visiting faculty at schools such as Oberlin College and enjoys putting young people in touch with their innate creativity and the power of musical expression.
