Underground Power Failure Affects Portions of North Mesa

DPU News:

An underground power failure affected parts of North Mesa at approximately 1:45 p.m. Thursday.

The underground line failed beneath the bus stop area at Hawks Landing and San Ildefonso.

Specifically, a single phase of three phase power was lost to homes on San Ildefonso and Alamo Roads, officials at the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reported.

DPU’s electric line crews initiated temporary repairs by 4:30 p.m. by back feeding electricity to restore power to the Alamo neighborhood.

Power was restored by 4:45 p.m. to the remaining customers on San Ildefonso Road.

Permanent repairs will continue today, Oct. 19, with a brief Friday power outage expected as those repairs are finalized.

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) operates the county-owned electric, gas, water & wastewater systems under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Utilities. The Board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. and the public is always welcome.
