Underground Line Failure Causes Power Failure

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities officials reported a power outage affecting 2,200 customers in the North and Barranca Mesas and downtown areas at 10:17 p.m. Saturday, due to an underground failure on a backbone feeder line (TC2) that provides power to the DPU’s electrical substation.

Power was restored within 20 minutes, as DPU’s electric linemen rerouted electricity to safely restore power to the affected customers quickly. LANL and DPU lineman are making preparations for permanent repairs expected to last for several days.

“The repairs to this critical backbone TC2 feeder require a multitude of steps to safely isolate and repair the underground power line situated in a very difficult outdoor work environment. Even under the best indoor working conditions, the repairs would take a couple of days,” said DPU Deputy Utility Manager Rafael de la Torre.
