Udall to Honor Veterans Monday

U.S. SENATE News:

Monday, Nov. 11, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., will honor and celebrate New Mexico’s veterans during the 28th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the New Mexico State Veterans’ Home in Truth or Consequences.

Udall will offer the keynote address at the ceremony. Afterward, he will visit with residents and join Lori Montgomery, director of the State Veterans’ Home, to discuss the facility’s expansion project.

Udall, a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, is the author or cosponsor of a number of bills to ensure service members and veterans get the care and services they have earned. Later this month, he will introduce a bill to expand and improve health care for veterans living in rural areas.

His work includes a bipartisan bill – signed into law this year – to help service members and veterans get specialized care for illnesses that may have resulted from exposure to toxic chemicals and fumes from open-air burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan.
