Udall Joins Raptor Release Near Taos Sunday

  • Ceremony will celebrate the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and Migratory Bird Treaty Act

TAOS – U.S Sen. Tom Udall will speak at the release of an American Kestrel at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge Sunday near Taos. 

The release is sponsored by New Mexico Rivers and Birds and the Santa Fe Raptor Center. Taos Pueblo Governor Gilbert Suazo will bless the ceremony.

The ceremony celebrates the 5 year anniversary of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, the 50 year anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and the 100 year anniversary of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. 

The ceremony will take place within the national monument boundaries overlooking a segment of the Rio Grande that is one of the first river segments designated as “wild” under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in 1968. The American Kestrel is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
