The Under-11 boys Los Alamos Football Club Photons competitive team qualified for Duke City League’s Challenge 1 Group after winning their promotion match against the Rio Rapids Avengers March 2. The team’s record of 6-1-1 in the Fall 2018 season qualified them for this opportunity.
The promotion game was an exciting one with both teams being fairly evenly matched, but the Photons were able to come out on top with a final score of 4-3.
Though the kids were clearly rusty due to having only 2 outdoor practices after the long and snowy winter, the coaches were impressed with the general level of play and effort put forth by the players. During the game, the Photons displayed some passing/crossing/switching prowess, which has been a focus of the team’s play.
While the entire team played well, performances of note were seen from Chris Teague at center back who stopped many scoring opportunities, Uriah Martinez who effectively drove the ball down the right wing for crosses as an outside midfielder and scored a goal, Will Gartz who had a great game playing outside midfielder, Jason Rodgers who scored the team’s first goal with a one touch finish off Uriah’s cross, and Jens Wald-Hopkins who scored two goals.
