POLITICAL News:

U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., and the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club have endorsed Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard for re-election to House District 43 in the Nov. 4 General Election.

Dist. 43 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard

“Representative Garcia Richard has been a strong ally for New Mexico,” Heinrich said. “Her commitment to conservation and her constituents is unwavering, and New Mexico is stronger with her in the Round House.”

The Sierra Club’s local Pajarito Group describes Garcia Richard as a consistent supporter of pro-environmental legislation and a leading voice at protecting New Mexico’s water supply and investing in renewable energy technologies. “She has been a leader at protecting our water rights, as well as ensuring the quality and availability of a water supply that can sustain our way of life for years to come,” the group said, adding that her most notable achievement in environmental legislation was sponsoring and passing HJM 10, a bill that established the Energy Storage Taskforce, comprised of energy research leaders including LANL, to study how best to incentivize storage of alternative energy.

Sierra Club’s Pajarito Group Chair Mark Jones

“Representative Garcia Richard has proven to be the right choice for House District 43 and we look forward to working alongside her to protect the air we breathe and the water we drink in the upcoming legislative session,” Pajarito Group Chair Mark Jones said.

Garcia Richard will speak on environmental issues in both the past and upcoming legislative sessions at the Sierra Club’s Pajarito Group meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 at UNM-LA Building 2, room 202. The public is invited to this event.
