NAMBÉ — U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the passing of former Assistant Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Energy Peter Lyons:

“I’m deeply saddened by the passing of Peter Lyons, a dedicated public servant and respected advisor of New Mexico policymakers and Cabinet secretaries. For more than four decades, Dr. Lyons shaped nuclear energy policy at Los Alamos National Lab and across the Department of Energy.

He leaves behind a legacy of promoting cooperation among international nuclear regulators and diversity in the nuclear energy workforce.

On a personal level, Dr. Lyons was known for his intelligence, kindness, and humility. He will be deeply missed, and my heart goes out to his family, friends, and all those touched by his incredible life.”
