ALBUQUERQUE – U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement in response to recent attacks by President Trump on the media, which have included comments claiming the media is the “enemy of the people.” As well as in response to newspapers across the country, including the Albuquerque Journal, publishing editorials discussing the importance of the free press.

“The freedom of the press, enshrined in the constitution, is fundamental to our democracy. Now more than ever in recent memory, journalists and the free and independent press are playing a critical role in holding the government accountable and keeping the public informed. I thank the countless journalists – not only in New Mexico, but across the country – for their work to inform citizens, uncover the truth, exchange opinions, and strengthen our democracy.”
