U.S. CONGRESSIONAL News:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement in celebration of Earth Day.

“For 45 years, Earth Day has brought together communities and individuals from around the world to advocate for a cleaner, healthier and sustainable future. Since the first Earth Day in 1970, we have seen important progress – making our air and water cleaner, combating acid raid, and growing our use of renewable energy.  We must continue to build on these successes, and to address the pressing issue of climate change that is impacting communities across New Mexico.

“This year’s theme, ‘It’s Our Turn to Lead,’ is a reminder that we all have a role to play in preserving our precious water resources, protecting our majestic lands, and using energy responsibly and efficiently.  Even the small steps we can take in our own lives can have a significant impact when we work together toward a common goal.

“As we celebrate Earth Day, I have introduced legislation to support efforts to grow a clean energy economy by preparing workers for jobs in the renewable energy sector.  The Community College Energy Training Act will help train students and retrain workers with the skills needed to compete in this growing field and make the next technological innovations that will further unleash the promise of a clean energy economy.

“This Earth Day, as we recognize the contributions and progress made over the past 45 years, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting and preserving our land, water, and natural resources.”
