U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján On 115th Congress

From the Office of U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement today after being sworn in as a member of the 115th Congress:

“Today, I stood with my colleagues in Congress as we each took a solemn oath to serve the people of our respective states and to protect and defend our nation’s Constitution.

“Each time I have taken my oath of office, I have been struck by both what a tremendous honor and tremendous responsibility it is to serve the people of New Mexico and to have the opportunity to again represent our great state.

I believe our country stands at a crossroads. We have weathered a campaign season that focused on our differences rather than our commonalities. But we cannot remain divided if we are to thrive as a nation; to solve the challenges we face, we need to work together, from every level of government to the private sector. We all have a role to play and I will be working hard in Washington and in the Third District to diversify and strengthen our economy, to protect everyone’s right to quality, accessible and affordable healthcare, and to provide more opportunities to hard-working New Mexicans.

“I will continue to be a strong advocate for our national labs by supporting important scientific research and development and fighting for funding for environmental cleanup. We must continue to invest in clean energy to take advantage of New Mexico’s abundant renewable resources that can power our economy and create good jobs in our communities. And I’ll continue to focus on our agricultural and traditional communities, supporting our farmers and ranchers and the products they grow and raise that are a vital part of our economy and our culture.

“The values of family, community and hard work that I learned growing up in New Mexico will guide me every day as I work on behalf of the people I am so honored to represent.”
