Two-Tailed Swallowtail Butterfly Feeding On Red Penstemon In Upper Water Canyon

Two-tailed Swallowtail feeding on red penstemon in Upper Water Canyon July 24. There are two large yellow swallowtails that regularly visit Los Alamos, this one and the smaller Western Tiger Swallowtail. In addition to being larger, the Two-tailed has thinner black stripes and two “tails” extending from each hind wing instead of just one.
