TUFF RIDERS News:

The 6th Annual Bike and Outdoor Gear Swap, a fundraiser for the Los Alamos Tuff Riders, is 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 10 at 170 Central Park Square, three doors down from Bathtub Row Brewery Co-op.

This free event is the perfect venue to sell items that would otherwise collect dust in the closet, shed or garage. Those looking for gear to help enjoy the summer are likely to find what they need at a great price. The Tuff Riders will have knowledgeable volunteers, including bike mechanics, on hand to help.

“I found a commuter bike that fit my size at a price well below my budget. I also bought new inner tubes and treads at a great bargain, and the onsite bike mechanic installed them for me, while adjusting my gears,” Donovan Heimer said. “My new bike was fixed up and ready to ride home right from the bike swap.”

The swap isn’t limited to bikes, all summer outdoor gear is welcome. This is a great time to add the gear swap to the calendar. Over the next few months, start a pile of gear that could use a new home. The Tuff Riders use the same online sale management system that Little Forest Playschool uses for its Resale events. A paper registration option the day before the swap also is available.

To sell items, visit http://tuffriders.losalamos.com/gearswap/ and register as a seller. It is free to register, and the seller keeps 85 percent of their sales. The other 15 percent supports the Tuff Riders. The online system allows sellers to enter items, print tags, and attach the tags to their gear from the convenience of their own home. The system also will allow sellers to see which items sold just after the swap. Paper registration forms also will be available before the swap:

  • 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 9; and
  • 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10.

The Tuff Riders also will accept donated items before the swap:

  • 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 9; and
  • 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10.

All proceeds earned from donated items will support the Tuff Riders. Items that do not sell and are not picked up by the seller will be given to a local nonprofit. Last year the Los Alamos High School Mountain Bike Club picked up the remaining items.

The Los Alamos Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit chapter of the International Mountain Bicycling Association. The club is dedicated to providing fun, social mountain bike rides and events for all ages and skill levels, helping to maintain our extensive trail network, and encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors. The Tuff Riders are most known for the weekly rides that leave promptly at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Sullivan Field. These rides are open to all, and they are great for meeting nice people and learning the local trails. For more information about the Los Alamos Tuff Riders, visit http://tuffriders.losalamos.com.
