Transform Recycled Materials Into Beautiful Handmade Paper And Books At Workshop June 13

NMDCA News:

Northern Río Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) is hosting a hands-on workshop from 12–3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 13, with Chantel West of we.grow.eco at Los Luceros Historic Site.

In this hands-on workshop focused on creative reuse, participants will learn how discarded cotton fabric is broken down and transformed into handmade paper, then bound into a simple and beautiful buttonhole-style journal. During the workshop, participants will process cotton clothing waste into pulp, form their own sheets of paper using traditional papermaking techniques, and learn basic bookbinding to assemble their paper into a buttonhole journal.

No prior experience is required for this workshop, and all materials will be provided. Participants should wear clothes they do not mind getting wet or slightly messy. Each participant will leave with handmade paper and a buttonhole-bound journal created during the workshop. The workshop is $50 per person. Proceeds benefit Los Luceros Historic Site. Register online.

This workshop introduces eco-friendly art-making techniques for people to learn how to create their own paper and books to make at home using repurposed materials.
