Tourism Department Cabinet Secretary to Conduct ‘NM True Tour’ Of Los Alamos June 11-12

COUNTY News:

Officials from Los Alamos County in Los Alamos, New Mexico are preparing to showcase the area’s historical, recreational and scenic offerings to the New Mexico Tourism Department Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Latham and her team, as part of a New Mexico True Tour June 11-12.

“We are truly excited for the opportunity to share our unique history to the NM Tourism Department who will be experiencing the highlights of Los Alamos County,” said Los Alamos County’s Economic Development Division Marketing Specialist, Kelly Stewart. “We’re looking forward to using this event as a way to effectively coordinate our efforts with the Tourism Department and leverage the success of the NM True campaign.”

The Tourism Department has been conducting NM True Tours of destination towns throughout the state for the past three years as a way to familiarize themselves and focus attention on the tourism assets and experiences offered at these featured locations. The NM True Tour Team will include: Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Rebecca Latham; Marketing Outreach and Indian Tourism Program Manager, Audrey Herrera-Castillo; Digital Media Director and Social Media Influencer, Jordan Guenther; Advertising Manager, Martin Leger; and Account Director of Talweg Creative, Maggie Nation.

The NM True Tour will begin the morning of June 11 from White Rock  when the group will take the County’s Atomic City Transit shuttle buses from the White Rock Visitor Center to Bandelier National Monument where they can explore the park’s Main Loop Trail, archaeological sites, Alcove House and more. Following lunch at one Los Alamos County’s restaurants of their choosing, the NM True Team will make a brief stop at the Bradbury Science Museum, “the public’s window to the Los Alamos National Laboratory,” its history, its mission and the innovative research and technological discoveries of today.

Next, as many visitors do, the team will board the familiar yellow Buffalo Tours bus for a customized tour of the once “Secret City” and all the sites and locations that have become historic markers of World War II and the Manhattan Project.  Born and raised in Los Alamos, tour leader Georgia Strickfaden will take the team to Ashley Pond, Bathtub Row, Camp May Road Overlook, White Rock Overlook Park, Historic Fuller Lodge, the Pajarito Mountain Ski Hill and more, providing little known anecdotes and fun facts along the way.

At Fuller Lodge, the executive director of the Los Alamos Historical Museum will provide a progress report on the new Manhattan Project National Historical Park.
A stop at the newly opened Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op – one of only a handful of co-op breweries in the country – and UnQuarked Wine Room on Main Street will finalize the tour.

From  9–11 a.m., Friday, June 12 the public is invited to come to the Los Alamos County Municipal Building at 1000 Central Avenue, where the NM True Team will present their impressions as well as how Los Alamos can effectively tie into the Tourism Department’s international advertising campaign.
