TOTH News:
Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church is holding an athletic shoe drive fundraiser during the entire month of May to raise money for House of Hope – a House Build Project in Juarez, Mexico.
Proceeds will be put toward the cost of building a simple home for a family in need. The community is invited to participate by bringing any old pairs of tennis shoes to the lower lot at Trinity on the Hill and dropping them in the clearly marked receptacle.
The shoes will then be collected and shipped to GotSneakers, a company that will re-purpose the shoes and in turn, provide cash that will be used toward building a house in Mexico.
GotSneakers has developed a unique fundraising program that asks communities to reach into their closets, not their pockets! The sneaker recycling program helps keep sneakers out of landfills, which has harmful effects on the environment, and helps organizations like House of Hope raise much needed funds.
The program is truly a win – win! Shoes in better condition will bring a better price than those that are well worn – but shoes in any condition will be accepted. So, as people do “spring cleaning” this year, please participate in this fund-raising effort and invite friends and family to do the same! Anyone can help by simply donating gently worn, used, and new sneakers. Learn more about the fundraising partner by visiting www.gotsneakers.com.
“We are excited about our sneaker drive fundraiser,” fundraiser coordinators Jon and Julie Bulthuis said. “We’re guessing that most people have extra sneakers in their closets they would like to donate rather than throw away. By doing so, we raise money for House of Hope and help the environment. It’s a win – win for everyone!”
For questions about this fundraiser or if interested in joining the Mexico House Build itself, please reach out to Jon or Julie at 505.709.7906 or 505.490.6061 by first contacting the office at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church at 505.662.5107.
