Volleyball is a momentum sport. Last Thursday evening the 4th-ranked Toppers hosted the 21st-ranked Capital Jaguars and it took a while for the Topper flywheel to get up to speed, but in the end the Toppers were victorious 25-19, 25-15 and 25-7.

With good passing from the back row and great setting by senior, Samatha Melton, the twin powerhouses of the Topper machine, Sierra Foley and Brianna Montano, combined for 27 kills.

The Topper serving was on target, too. Foley and Melton each served for 14 points and senior, Elizabeth Anaya, served for 9 points. Serving by these three led to the Topper dominance in the final set. Melton started the set off serving for eight straight points. The Toppers won points 11 through 15 on Foley’s serve to lead 15-3 and then Anaya served to win points 17 through 24 to lead 24-4 before a sideout.

The Topper JV-team was victorious 25-20 and 25-15. The C-team lost two nail biters by identical 26-24 scores.

This Thursday evening the Topper volleyball team plays host to the 10th-ranked Albuquerque Chargers.
