BLOOMFIELD – The Los Alamos Hilltopper (8-3) girls’ soccer team rebounded after a close loss to Piedra Vista by dominating the Bloomfield Bobcats (7-3) en route to a 9-0 win Saturday afternoon.
The ‘Toppers set a team goal to shut out Bloomfield, a goal they met while pelting the Lady Bobcats goalkeepers to the tune of 39 shots on goal for the afternoon.
“They have the physical ability, they have the fitness, so it was all about concentrating and getting our head in the game today,” Coach Erika Leibrecht said after the game. Leibrecht filled in as head coach for Ann Cernicek who was out of town for the trip.
Los Alamos was led in scoring by Alissia Haagenstad and Elsa Gram with 2 goals apiece. Alyssa Parker, Alix Hailey, Katie Hopkins, Hailey Capon and Camryn Dickson all added a goal as well.
Freshman Keeper Annika Fox is credited with the shutout, saving 8 shots on the day.
Los Alamos has a revenge game coming up Tuesday when Hope Christian visits Sullivan Field. The Huskies beat Los Alamos in the championship game of the Albuquerque Academy tournament to start the month.

FARMINGTON – After what seemed like a game of keep-away, the Los Alamos girls’ soccer team dropped a match Friday afternoon to Piedra Vista 1-0.
“It’s a number of things, we had just got off the bus after a four-hour bus ride, we didn’t have our own bus, and we didn’t have our heads in the game,” Coach Erika Leibrecht said of the loss to the Panthers.
The ‘Toppers were able to get 15 shots off, but couldn’t squeeze one by the Piedra Vista goalkeeper. This loss adds to a roller coaster kind of season for Los Alamos, coming after a big win over St. Pius followed by a surprising loss to St. Michael’s.
“A lot of it is coming in ready for the game. Keeping that concentration the whole game, settling down, making sure we are always playing our game, and we don’t always do that,” Leibrecht recognized.
Los Alamos still has plenty of chances to work on concentration with some tough teams coming up starting with Hope Christian at home, on the road at the Sandia Prep tournament next weekend, and district play starting at the end of the month.
