Tonya Males Charged With Larceny

Staff Report

Tonya Males of Espanola has been charged with larceny, a fourth degree felony in connection with the alleged theft of $900 while cleaning the home of a client of P&L Housekeeping.

June 27, Los Alamos Police Cpl. Gabriel Nieto was dispatched to a home on Grand Canyon Drive where the victim said she was missing money, which had been in an envelope in a bedroom dresser and claimed Males was the only person who had access to the bedroom besides herself.

Nieto contacted Males and asked her to come to the police station. When questioned by Nieto, Males denied taking the cash. When he asked her if she was aware of a camera in the room, Males allegedly said if she was being accused of something she would like to speak to an attorney.

June 28, LAPD Det. Joey Robinson met with the victim at her home and collected all the envelopes, which were kept with the envelope that contained the money. The statement of probable cause filed in Los Alamos Magistrate Court said it is determined that the only persons that had access to the master bedroom of the residence were the victim and Males and that due to Males having access to the money without the victim present in the room, that males removed the money from the dresser and stole it.

Males is scheduled for a first appearance Aug. 28 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court before Judge Pat Casados.
