Tonight’s Powerball Skyrockets to $550 Million

Powerball lottery tickets are selling at a rate of 130,000 a minute across the United States today, according to reports, and the jackpot has risen to $550 million. Unlike the long lines seen in cities across the nation, local ticket sales were much slower this evening with a line beginning to form at Smiths on Central Avenue at 7 p.m. and just two people in line at Chevron on Trinity Drive. Victor Martinez is shown purchasing four tickets at 7:15 p.m. from Chevron clerk Robert Torres. “The first thing I will do if I win is help the homeless,” Martinez said. “Then I will pay off my truck and buy a small home for my family.” The Powerball jackpot has already rolled over 16 consecutive times without a winner, but Powerball officials report there is a 75 percent chance the winning combination will be drawn this evening.
