‘Tis the Season … for E Books!


Many choices exist these days of smart phones, tablets, laptops, e readers and other devices and Los Alamos County Library System has expanded its services with audio books and eBooks available for instant download to any of these devices from the library’s website.

Best-selling and classic titles are available anytime, anywhere from your library … find out how to download FREE e books and audio books to your device.

To make it fun and easy, the library is offering a series of ‘how to’ clinics to help patrons get started enjoying reading and listening to books wherever they might be.

The New Year is a great time for all things new including a library card which is all patrons need to access thousands of titles from the online catalog.

Users may browse the library’s downloadable catalog, http://lacnm.lib.overdrive.com, check out with a valid library card, and download to PC, Mac®, and many mobile devices.

Users will need to install free software for audio books, OverDrive Media Consol and eBooks, Adobe Digital Editions.

Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPod®, Kindle, Sony® Reader™, and many others. Some audio titles can also be burned to CD to listen on-the-go.

Titles automatically expire at the end of the lending period sooooooo … NO LATE FEES!

Patrons are encouraged to come by with their own device for any of the following clinics offered by Los Alamos County Library System Librarians:

  • Dec. 30, 1-3 p.m. @ Mesa Public Library
  • Dec. 31, 10 a.m.-noon @ Mesa Public Library
  • Jan. 3, 4-6 p.m. @ White Rock Branch Library
  • Jan. 5, 3-5 p.m. @ Mesa Public Library
  • Jan. 7, 4-6 p.m. Mesa Public Library
  • Jan. 10, 10 a.m.-noon @ White Rock Branch Library

Each  instructional session will teach patrons how to download the necessary e book and audio book software, explore how to search for titles on the online catalog, how to set reading preferences on a device, and librarians will go over the basics of login, checkout, placing hold requests, and other details of how to set up and access personal accounts.
