Threat Closes Espanola Valley High School

Superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez

Staff Report

Due to threats posted Tuesday on social media about a potential shooting at Espanola Valley High School, Superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez has cancelled today’s classes.made the decision Tuesday evening

Early Tuesday morning, the school learned of the threat on social media and police were able to determine that the student who made that threat attends a neighboring school. Their investigation continues.

In a briefing Tuesday afternoon with staff, law enforcement advised the district to either institute a lockdown or school closure for today. After consideration and a lengthy conversation with the investigating officer, the superintendent made the decision Tuesday evening to close the school.

“At the current time, we do not have any reason to believe any of our elementary schools or our middle school is in danger, and all schools, other than the high school, will be on a regular schedule on Wednesday,” Gutierrez said Tuesday evening.
