The Elephant In The Room: Election 2016!

The Elephant in the Room
By the Los Alamos Republican Party

We’ve barely gotten into the political voting season and it’s been exciting on both sides of the aisle!

This is the time of the year when things start to get really busy – campaigning, rallies, parties, elections. Even here in Los Alamos, your local GOP has got a lot going on and we would love for you to join us!

Our first event is a “Meet & Greet” of Republican Primary and General Election candidates at 6:30 p.m., this Thursday, March 10.

Have you wondered who is running for local and state offices on the Republican side of the ticket? The Los Alamos Federation of Republican Women and the Republican Party of Los Alamos are having a joint “Meet the Candidates” forum starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday  in the Jeannette Wallace Hall at UNMLA.

This is a great chance to meet candidates running for Los Alamos County Council, State Representative, Congressional District 3 and more. They will each be there to tell you about themselves, their beliefs and take your questions. Refreshments will be served.

Second, we are participating in Voter Registration Tuesday March 22 and Wednesday March 23.

Are you over the age of 18 or will be 18 by the general election in November? Are you registered to vote? If you need to register to vote, or know someone who needs to register, there will be voting registration at UNMLA and Los Alamos High School March 22 and March 23. Registration at LAHS is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during lunch and academic time and11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UNMLA. You must know your SS# to register. Please register and be part of the process!

The third event we are hosting is the RPLA Patriot’s Day Fundraising Dinner 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 16, celebrating the start of the American Revolution. This event is to also help kick off the $16 for 2016 campaign. In addition to dinner and dessert, we will have activities for the kids, a photo booth for everyone to enjoy and local and state candidates to visit with. If you would like to attend this event, please rsvp to: losalamosgop.com@gmail.com.

We are very excited about our guest speaker – Harrison “Jack” Schmitt who is an American geologist, retired NASA astronaut, university professor and and former U.S. Senator from our great state of NM.

In December 1972, as one of the crew on board Apollo 17, he became the 12th person to set foot on the moon and the second-to-last person to step off of the Moon.

This event is a casual, family event and will take place 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at the White Rock Baptist Church. The ticket price is $16 for adults and children 12 years old and younger are free.

Our thrid event is the Los Alamos Quadrennial GOP County Convention starting promptly at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21. This county convention is a chance to pick representatives to be Los Alamos county delegates at our NM State Convention in May.

These delegates from Los Alamos will go to Albuquerque to the state convention and vote to select the NM delegates we need to send to the GOP National Convention in July, which is in Cleveland, Ohio. Who knows, with all the primary excitement, we may have an unusual convention and delegates are then very important. All registered Republican voters from all precincts are encouraged to attend. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the convention starts at 6 p.m.

If you haven’t checked out our website, please do! We have a ton of information on it and try to update it weekly at www.losalamosgop.com.

We are a party that is made up of many diverse opinions and beliefs but all tend to agree on the need to be fiscally responsible and that government should be smaller. It is time for us to work together and unite as a party so we can grow our party and make our county, state and nation better.

We sincerely hope to have you attend one, two or hopefully ALL of our upcoming events. There IS room for you in the Republican Party of Los Alamos and WE WELCOME YOU! See you soon!
