Temporary Barriers Going Up at Ashley Pond Park

COUNTY News:

If warmer weather prevails, residents may see activity around Ashley Pond as early as today to install temporary barriers to the entrances of the boardwalks that were part of the earlier Ashley Pond Park renovations. unveiled last fall.

Renovations to the pond include wetland plantings this spring, which will help delineate the boardwalk and provide a better perspective between the walkway and the pond. However, without the plantings in place at this time, it may be difficult to differentiate the edge of the boardwalks during cold weather when the pond is frozen and covered with snow.

The temporary barriers at the entrance to the boardwalks are being installed to limit access during hazardous conditions. Barriers will be removed following each weather occurrence after the snow and ice have melted.

The Parks Department crew will be fabricating portable/temporary railings this summer for use next winter, which will be installed along each side of the boardwalks. This will allow safe access to the boardwalks for the public during winter weather while providing a safety barrier from falling or slipping into the pond. Railings will be installed in the late fall prior to inclement weather and removed in the spring.
