Toppers Football Team Beats Santa Fe Demons 22-13

Toppers Boys Soccer Wins Big Over Taos Tigers

The Topper boys soccer team took control of the District 2-4A by defeating the Taos Tigers 7-0 in a match played Thursday on Sullivan Field. The Tigers and the Toppers were even in distract play, but with this BIG win the Toppers moved into to lead. In their first meeting the two teams played to a 0-0 tie in a double overtime played in Taos. In the game at Los Alamos the Toppers played much faster and with much more intensity and everything clicked into place offensively and the Toppers took control through the game. Kick For The Cure: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the LAHS Girls Soccer Program will contribute to this campaign through their annual Kick for the Cure event.
The varsity and JV girls' soccer teams will wear pink jerseys throughout the month and will distribute pledge forms to generate donations to increase breast cancer awareness and fund research and treatment.

The swap is 1-4 p.m. Saturday and includes the sale of new and lightly used skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, helmets and ski clothing.

Drop off equipment for resale 8-11 a.m. Saturday.

Pick-up unsold equipment and payment for sold equipment 1-3 p.m. Sunday.

The Topper Volleyball team takes to the floor for a game against the Pojoaque Elkettes Wednesday evening in Griffith Gym. They are wearing pink to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Week. The Toppers and the Elkettes enter this game tied for first please in the 2AAAA district contest, and the winner will take over undisputed first place. The Elkettes proved to be the stronger team by winning the match in three sets, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-14. Toppers Soccer Against Pojoaque Elks & Elkettes

The boys and girls soccer teams picked up deceive wins against their closest 2AAA district teams, the Pojoaque Elks and Elkettes Tuesday afternoon at Sullivan Field. The boys played first and closed out the game at the beginning of the second half with a score of 10-0. The girls played after the conclusion of the boys game and likewise closed the game early by the mercy rule at the end of the first half with a score of 12-0. The Topper boys and girls soccer teams will both be at Sullivan Field this Wednesday Oct. 18, against Taos Tigers.

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center and Reel Deal Theater present a special showing of the acclaimed documentary “Free Solo” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1.

This stunning film follows climber Alex Honnold as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream of climbing El Capitan … without a rope. Pajarito Brewpub will serve beer and wine at this event and the ticket sales will serve as a fundraiser for PEEC.

The 12th Annual Elementary Mile Run is Friday, Oct. 26. Note the time change to 2:45 p.m. (followed 4-6 p.m. by Trick or Treat on MainStreet).

Kids can get registered by:
1)  mailing it (to be received prior to Oct. 24) - address on form;
2)  turning it into their PE teachers; or,
3)  showing up at 2 p.m. the day for the event (but it could mean waiting in a long line in the cold).

Hilltoppers Dominate Northern Challenge

After a strong showing against out-of-state competition Oct. 6 at the Pat Amato Classic meet in Northglenn, Colo., the Los Alamos High School boys and girls cross country teams stayed local and dominated the Northern Challenge cross country meet Oct. 12 at the Municipal Recreation Complex in Santa Fe.

The Hilltoppers took first place in the boys race with 26 points, easily ahead of second-place Pojoaque Valley High Scchool. The Elks were a distant second with 88 points. Taos High School was third with 145 points.


Los Alamos High School XC Teams Dominate Meet

The Los Alamos High School Cross Country teams dominated Friday's Northern New Mexico Invite at the Municipal Recreation Center in Santa Fe. The Girls Varsity had six of the top seven finishers, the Boys Varsity took the top three spots, the Girls JV had the top eight finishers and the Boys JV took most of the top spots. Looking for something to do next weekend? How about driving up to Pajarito Mountain Ski Area to one of the largest motorsports event to ever come to Los Alamos County.

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21, WeBe Racing – Hare-Scramble Series, will put on dirt bike motorcycle races on Pajarito Mountain. Many riders will compete at the Pajarito Mountain Ski Area in various classes.

Family YMCA Youth Basketball Registration Opens

YMCA News:
The Family YMCA’s Youth Basketball Program for girls and boys in grades 1-6 is taking registration through Oct. 26. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches, assistants and team parents.
The Y’s basketball leagues are developmental and co-ed for youth in grades 1-2; and competitive for girls in 3-4 grade, boys in 3-4 grade, girls 5-6 grade, and boys 5-6 grade.
Practices are held Nov. 5 through Feb. 1, two times per week in Los Alamos or White Rock. Games are Saturdays, Dec. 1 through Feb. 2. Cost is $120, or $90 for Y Members.

NMAA Recognizes 2018 Distinguished Service Award Recipients

ALBUQUERQUE The New Mexico Activities Association Distinguished Service Award is given annually at the NMAA & NMADA Fall Leadership Conference. The individuals receiving this award have all contributed significantly toward the good of the Association in one form or another.
Each recipient has supported interscholastic activities for numerous years. The 2018 honorees are David Campbell, Dr. Roberto Carreon, and Gary Chavez.
David Campbell was born and raised a “Buckeye” in Ohio.

NMAA: 2017-2018 Subway Director’s Cup Winners

ALBUQUERQUE Melrose, Fort Sumner, Pecos, Hope Christian, Artesia, and La Cueva were all honored on Monday for claiming the Subway Director’s Cup for the 2017-2018 school year.
The Subway Director’s Cup is awarded annually to the top New Mexico Activities Association member schools in each classification based upon success in activities, athletics, and sportsmanship.
Melrose High School took home the Class 1A cup while winning state championships in Football, Volleyball, Boys Basketball, and Girls Track & Field.

Hilltoppers Win Volleyball Game In Moriarty

The Toppers won sets 1 and 3 while the Pintos took sets 2-4. The 5th set belonged to the Toppers as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead finished with a win. The 5th set was led with strong serving and hitting from Eden Schmierer. Elise Olivas kept the offense calm and directed a solid overall performance.
