Democratic Council Candidates to Discuss Los Alamos' Economy: Diversity, Jobs and Future

The Democratic Party of Los Alamos invites the community to hear a discussion among the three Democratic candidates running for Los Alamos County Council.

The discussion will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Democratic Party Headquarters, 140 Central Park Square.

Candidates Kristin Henderson, Michael Redondo and Pete Sheehey will discuss the topic of Los Alamos' economy: diversity, jobs and the future.

The Democratic Party Headquarters entrance faces the large parking lot that borders Nectar Street and 15th Street.


Heather Wilson Coming to LAMC to Discuss Heathcare Reform

Republican U.S. Senatorial candidate Heather Wilson is set to meet with medical professionals from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Los Alamos Medical Center. 

The topic to be discussed at the meeting is concern over healthcare reform.

Individuals working in the medical field are encouraged to attend. The meeting is open to the public.

GOP Headquarters Grand Opening is Sept. 15

The Los Alamos Republican Party is hosting the grand opening celebration of its headquarters at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1362 Trinity Dr., Suite D1, just north of Viola's Restaurant.

The community is invited to attend the grand opening and meet Jefferson Byrd, candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, 3rd Congressional District.

Several Republican candidates running for state and local offices also will be on hand to speak with the public.

Free hot dogs and refreshments will be served.

New Mexico Federation of Republican Women President Elaine Miller of Albuquerque attended last week's Republican National Convention in Tampa Fla., as an alternate delegate. She told the Los Alamos Daily Post that the real turning point for her in the convention was listening to the inspirational speech given by Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan. "He said the things that made me feel positive and enthusiastic and I'm ready to get busy helping to get our candidates elected," she said.

The Republican Party of Los Alamos County announces that its new headquarters will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4.
The local GOP headquarters is at 1362 D-1 Trinity Dr., which is north of Viola's Restaurant.
Voter registration will be available at the headquarters as well as material and information on Republican candidates.

Secret Service Agent Left Loaded Handgun in Bathroom of Romney Plane

A secret service agent accidentally left her gun inside the lavatory of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's campaign plane.

CBS News reports that the loaded gun was found by one of its reporters who was travelling with the Republican presidential nominee from Tampa to Indianapolis, Ind., where Romney was scheduled to deliver a speech.

CBS adds:

"A member of the Secret Service on board the plane was informed and retrieved the gun.

The Democratic Party of Los Alamos County Central Committee tonight unanimously elected Michael Redondo to replace Ken Johnson who officially withdrew his name from the Los Alamos County Council race Aug. 17.

Redondo, 32, has lived in Los Alamos since the age of 3. He earned his master's degree a little over a year ago in community and regional planning. He is the owner/director of Michael Redondo, LLC, a Biodiversity Planning, Outreach and Education company.

Heinrich Meets Oz

On Thursday, Democratic Senatorial candidate Rep. Martin Heinrich met Oz Einstein Armbruster, the dog attacked by another dog while campaigning door-to-door for Heinrich with his owner Karyl Ann Armbruster a few weeks ago. Heinrich heard about Oz's misfortune and called to check on his condition. After visiting Los Alamos National Laboratory contractors Thursday, Heinrich attended the opening of his Pojoaque Campaign Office. He told the crowd that as an engineer, he considered LANL vital to the health of Northern New Mexico.

Democratic candidate Ken Johnson officially withdrew his name from the Los Alamos County Council race, filing his paperwork with the Los Alamos County Clerk's Office late this morning.

Johnson shared with the Los Alamos Daily Post his reasons for leaving the race.

"A confluence of events in recent months has made it highly likely that I will be moving away from Los Alamos in the fairly near future," Johnson said. "Consequently, if elected to the council, I would be unable to complete my term.

UPDATE: The Democratic Headquarters will open to the public with regular hours begining Saturday, Aug. 25.

The Los Alamos County Democratic Party inked a deal this afternoon to lease a space in Central Park Square for its 2012 campaign headquarters.

"We are very excited to have a central location where we can conduct the party's business," Chair Michael Wheeler said.
