Darren Lee Jardine, 57, born in Los Alamos and a resident of El Guique, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 following a lengthy illness.

Darren was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patricio and Petrita Borrego and Leo Leroy Jardine and Vera Steaker.

Darren grew up and went to school in Los Alamos and loved to read. He worked in construction for a short time then joined the security force where he worked for over 33 years.

SHERRY LYNN (TUTTLE) RENINGER July 16, 1931 – Jan. 11, 2018

Sherry Lynn (Tuttle) Reninger, a longtime resident of Los Alamos, died peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2018. She was 86 years old.

Sherry was born to Edmund and Blanche Tuttle in Cody, Wyoming on July 16, 1931. She grew up in Cody, going to school, spending time at her uncle’s ranch and working at the local soda counter with her twin sister Marian, making and serving malts and milkshakes.

After high school Sherry and Marian attended the University of Wyoming.

Helen P. Clark-Myers, 88, a resident of White Rock, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Minnie Schultz Myers; step-mother, Bernice Mullins; siblings, Merel O. and Eugene K. Clark.

Helen was a caring and loving person with a heart of gold. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Clark-Myers is survived by her husband of 65 years, William J.

Dorothy Barteau “Dee” Wilson was born on May 29, 1926 in Potrerillos, Chile to Dorothy Powell and Harry C. Barteau. Her father Harry was Chief Comptroller there with Anaconda Copper. 

Dee spent her first seven years in Chile before she and her brother Sidney Brewster moved with the family to Scarsdale, NY. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA with a degree in Psychology, spending her junior year in Boulder, Colorado - her first taste of the west.

From 1949-1972, Dee was married to Dr. Howard Wilson.

Tom Capelli, at age 85 peacefully passed away Sunday, January 10, 2018 at his son’s home.

He leaves two children, daughter Cindy Capelli, son Steve Capelli, children's mother Jean Capelli and two grandchildren; Ryan and Nick Capelli and many close friends.

Tom was born in California in 1932 and moved to Los Alamos in 1968 with his family to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He worked at LANL as an engineer from 1968 until he retired and moved up to Chama, New Mexico.

He was quite the inspiration for many boys who played baseball and grew up here in Los

Jean C. Jones passed away on January 13th due to complications from ALS. She passed in her home, with family present.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Jones and survived by her two sons Glen and Robert, her three grandchildren, and her sister Susie Malone.

Jean was born in Los Angeles, California to Walter and Dorthy Langenberg. She was raised in North Hollywood where she married Kenneth Jones. She moved to Los Alamos in 1970, earned a bachelor’s degree from UNM, and ran an accounting business also in Los Alamos.

Patrick Joseph Beauparlant of Los Alamos passed away January 15, 2018. He was 19 years old.

Patrick was born October 19, 1998 on Long Island, New York. He moved to Vienna, Austria in 2004 and graduated from the Vienna International Primary School. He began his athletic career in little league and progressed to playing Rugby, which took him to tournaments all over Europe. Patrick repatriated to New York in 2012 and attended Commack High School where he played football.

DORTHA “JUNE” PIRTLE June 27, 1929 – Jan. 14, 2018

June Pirtle, long time Los Alamos resident, left this earth to begin a new journey on January 14, 2018.

June and her husband, John moved to Los Alamos from East Texas in 1954. She was a grocery store checker for a short time prior to getting hired at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Data Administrator. She worked for the Lab until her retirement in the early 90’s.

June was a kind, soft-spoken soul who loved the Lord, her family and friends, and her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 60 years.

Edward C. Carpenter passed away peacefully Jan. 9, 2018.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita, and his daughter, Brenda Lane of Norfolk, Va. He is also survived by his granddaughter Sarah Frost and her husband, and two great-granddaughters of Eagle River, Alaska.

Following his wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice.

Mrs. Patricia Mary Pappas (nee Doyle) of Los Alamos, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the age of 86 after battling dementia for several years. Patricia is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Pappas; her son, Glen Pappas; her brother, John Doyle; and grandson, Brandon Pappas. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Pappas; her parents, Patrick and Mary Doyle; her sisters, Pegge and Kathy Doyle; and her grandson, Ryan Pappas.

Patricia was born to parents Patrick and Mary Doyle on May 17, 1931 in New York, NY.

Toni was born August 3,1926 in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were Frank A. Grooss and Frances Breyer Grooss. Toni graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago and earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Following graduation from Northwestern, Toni taught elementary school in the Chicago area.

Milton Glenn Lockhart, a longtime resident of White Rock, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and Pete Lockhart; brother, James Walter.

Glenn worked for the Zia Company in Los Alamos as an accountant and later as a Systems Analyst. The New Mexico Health and Social Services as a controller and was hired by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (Later LANL) in 1976.

Through the years he worked in wage and salary, personnel, Administrative Processing and Budget.

Johnny Russell Harper was born in San Francisco, California to parents Grant and Beatrice Harper. He was raised at the farm in Redrock, NM. After Johnny received his Master of Science Degree in Radiological Science in 1971, he moved to Los Alamos to start his career with University of California at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Johnny worked at Los Alamos until he retired in 2010.

He is survived by his wife Margaret of Corrales, NM and son Aaron of McPherson, Kansas.

Sue was born on June 17, 1933 in Tucson, AZ to the late Jamie Gambrell and Hal Lynn Kerr. Sue grew up in Socorro, and then Los Alamos, NM, where she was in one of the first graduating classes of Los Alamos High School (1951) and met the love of her life, Ray. Sue and Ray worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for many years, raising their two daughters, Susan Marie and Nancy Ann.

Kenneth J. Van Etten, age 71, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017. He was born in Madison, WI on March 15, 1946, to Edward Van Etten and Geraldine Milich. 

Kenneth graduated from Los Alamos High in 1964, went on to study at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, NM. In 1967 he enlisted in the Air Force where he served 4 years in Spain as a E5 Staff Sergeant. Upon returning, Kenneth met and married the love of his life Linda Cohee. They were married on August 16, 1971 in Socorro, NM.

Fredie Nelson Farnsworth, 88, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, decided to celebrate the New Year in heaven. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 1, 2018.

Fredie was born in Klamath, CA, in 1929 in a small Indian village where his parents were missionaries. He always told the story that an Indian midwife delivered him, held him up, and made a pronouncement in her native tongue (which he would quote). When we asked him what that meant, he would say, “That is one ugly baby!”

Jack was born in 1931 in Lorain, OH to the late John and Julia Carlson.

Jack was a graduate of Lorain High School in Ohio and later graduated from Contra Costa College in California. Jack served as a Sargent in the Korean War. He later worked as an engineer for Westinghouse, Varian, and Lockheed Missiles and Space in CA.  He was an avid reader, poker player, woodworker, and artist.

Janet was born October 15, 1931 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, second child of Victor Alonzo and Dorothy Brackett Bradley. She studied Psychology at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT, graduating With Honors in 1953 and marrying Donald Harris in 1954. Janet and Don lived in the Pittsburgh, PA area for 14 years.

In 1968 they relocated to Los Alamos, NM where their 7th child was born.

Shirley Armstrong, 72, beloved wife and mother, would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be reunited with her son, sisters, brothers, and parents. She will be painting, gardening and raising chickens to her heart’s content.

She also left instructions for her husband and children to celebrate her time here, which has now been completed.

Edward R. “Ed” Flynn, Jr. of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Dec 14, 2017 at his home.

Ed served his country from November 1983 to March 1990 in the United States Navy with a focus on Nuclear Powered Submarines.

Ed moved to Carlsbad to begin his career at WIPP in 1990 in Maintenance as a Senior Electronic Technician. He was currently an Operations Specialist in Instrumentation and Control.

Ed is survived by three daughters: Gail Flynn, Allison Flynn, and Cara Flynn.

Donald Weber Brown passed away on December 24, 2017 at the age of 86 after a life well-lived.

Don received his Bachelors degree in Geology from UCLA and enlisted as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers, where he served in the Korean Conflict. After the war, Don attended UT Austin on the GI Bill and pursued a graduate degree in petroleum engineering. While working on his Masters, Don started dating another UCLA alum, Mary Louse Cook.
