Zenas "Slim" Boone, 94, of Los Alamos died Aug. 13, 2013 at Los Alamos Medical Center. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene U. Boone, parents Hettie (Penland) and Andrew Boone, brothers Hudson and Charles, sisters Flora, Ruth and Dorothy and son Charles.  

Slim was born Aug. 27, 1918 in Yancy County, NC. His early years were spent working on farms in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He moved into Washington, D.C. and after working on bridge construction he was hired for the trolley system where is gained his experience with electronics.

Alfred John Roybal, Jr., 36, a resident of Arroyo Seco, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 9, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Martin and Maria Roybal; maternal grandparents, Jose Alberto and Martha Lopez; beloved niece he helped raise, Mercedes Roybal; brother-in-law, Adam Villarreal and uncles, Patricio, Benito and Martin Junior Roybal.

Alfred served as a police officer for the Los Alamos Police Department for 11 years and also served previously with Taos and Santa Fe Police Department.

Jerry Buchen died of cancer at home surrounded by his loving family, in the "Summertime."

Jerry was a man of unique integrity who had the conviction and strength to live his own way. Born and raised in Los Alamos, he spent his adult life in Santa Fe after graduating from St. John's College in 1972. He owned Santa Fe Glass & Mirror for 20 years, after which he worked as an independent contractor, designer and builder.

George E. Stephens Jr. died July 31, 2013 at 89 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50-plus years, Faith (Fridlington); sisters Dorothy, Fonda, Hazel, Maxine and Vera; and brother John.

Just short of his 95th birthday, our adored father left his cares behind and joined our mother, his most beloved wife, Sally. They were married for 65 years and can now pick up where they left off just a few years ago.

Dad was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his BS from Case School of Applied Sciences and returned to Case for night school to earn his MS in Metallurgical Engineering. For two years he worked for Republic Steel Corp, then returned to Case to work in a research and development program.

Archerd Eli Youngblood, 87, a resident of Los Alamos and formerly of Palmer Township and Hellertown, Pa., passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe. Archerd was born April 25, 1926, in Evansville, Ind., and was the son of the late Leland Masters Youngblood and Nina Archerd.

On Sept. 10, 2009, Archerd and his late wife Atea Greco Youngblood celebrated 60 years of marriage. After his wife passed away, he moved to Los Alamos where he met his second wife, Marjorie Orth, whom he married Sept.

John Paul Pacheco, 30, a resident of El Guache, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Pacheco, maternal grandmother Emma Gurule and uncle Herman Gurule.

John was a mechanic and loved being outdoors, riding dirt bikes, four wheeling and mud bogging. He also enjoyed spending time with his sons at monster trucks and playing and teaching them about cars and taught them to drive the bobcat. John had a big and open heart and showed it through his emotion and big hugs he would give you.

Bobby Frank Chi, 31, born in Los Alamos, New Mexico June 14, 1982, unexpectedly passed away July 17, 2013. 

Bobby was caring and loved life. He will be remembered for his ambitious pursuits of knowledge, new challenges, love of ghost hunting, and living in the moment.

Los Alamos native Harold Opperman, "Pastor Hal," 68, passed away June 23, 2013.

A loving husband, father and grandfather of Las Vegas, Nev., Pastor Hal was born March 3, 1945, in Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Opal Opperman. He is survived by his brothers, Paul Opperman of Albuquerque and Gayle Opperman of Henderson.

Natalie McCall Stanhope passed away peacefully July 12, 2013, after a long illness, she was 88. 

She was born in Woodston, Kansas; to Henry and Emma McCall, on May 12, 1925. She met John Stanhope in 1939, they were married on December 24, 1942 in Bremerton, WA, during World War II–Pearl Harbor. They just celebrated their 70th anniversary. They celebrated their honeymoon at Niagara Falls, NY.

Gerald was born in Los Alamos, N.M. on July 29, 1965.  He is survived by his mother Diana  Kottmann, his father John Kottmann, both of Los Alamos, and sisters Carole Zanone (Jon) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lisa McPeek-Brannen (Scott) of Farmington, N.M. 

He is also survived by niece Jessica Cordova, nephews Zachary and Austin Zanone, and Kevin McPeek III.

June R. Jurney, born Virginia June Ramsdell, died peacefully at home April 25 at the age of 84.

June was raised in Mendota, WI, the youngest child of Martha and Harrison Ramsdell. She outlived her parents, her husband, and all her siblings: Leland, Dorothy, Eleanor, and Irene.

Like her sisters, June became a nurse. In July 1950 she and her sister Irene sailed to Europe to work at the American Hospital of Paris. At the hospital, she befriended the writer Richard Wright, who was a patient.

Mark was born, April 15, 1974, in Roswell, N.M., the youngest of four children.

Mark graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1993 and went on to attend the University of New Mexico with a BS in Physics, Virginia Tech with a MS in Engineering Mechanics and State University of Buffalo where he received a PhD in Aerospace Engineering.

David J. Heimdahl, 64, died from a sudden illness on June 24, 2013.

He was born in Havre, Mont., to Finn and Alice Heimdahl. The family moved to St. Louis Park, Minn., in 1952. David graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1967 and received his Bachelor degree in Business from Moorhead State University in 1971.

After graduating college, David found his true passion working with young people as Youth Director and Director of Camp Cormorant of the YMCA in Fargo, ND.

Shane Lee Schultz, 43, of Neola, Utah, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Shane served as a Combat Engineer, First Infantry Division, US Army, based at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He served in Afghanistan, was disabled, and received a medical retirement in 2012.

Shane was born February 1, 1970, in Deming, New Mexico, the second of three sons of George R. Schultz and Barbara Knowles Schultz. Shane grew up in Moab, Utah. In 1979 his parents divorced and his father married Diana Webb. Shane attended Grand County High School in Moab.

He was born in New York City, New York on Jan. 6, 1918. He grew up in Mt. Vernon, NY. His father, Edward F. Hammel, Sr. was a civil engineer. His mother, Louise Schultz Hammel, was a church secretary, loving housewife and mother.  

Edward Hammel graduated from Dartmouth College in 1939 with a major in chemistry. It was at Dartmouth where he also worked as a waiter in Mrs.

She was born March 3, 1936. She was the beloved child of Philip and Georgia Goss, and mother of Preston Cooper, Erika Cooper Gorman, and Linsday Cooper. She loved her grandchildren Ethan and Kelsey Prueitt, Dane Van Buren, Layn Biddle, Rigel and Andromeda Cooper, and Kyle and Grace Sackman. She raised Layn for several years and missed him every day after he moved to Alaska.

Lorna was a talented painter and photographer until her disease

Donald Ortega was a former resident of Los Alamos and resided in Idaho Falls with his daughter, Suzanna and son-in-law, Andrew Phillips since July 2011. Donald was born on March 13, 1926 in Las Vegas, NM to Maggie Ortega Trosper. As a young teenager, his first job was working for the railroad in Southern New Mexico.

Retired Sen. Steve Stoddard of Los Alamos died at approximately 10 a.m. today. 

He was on hospice in the past week or more. His family had traveled to Los Alamos to be with him at the end.

Stoddard was a Los Alamos Living Treasure and known for his love of displaying the American flag at his home.

Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely proud of his children.

Marylee B. Lehman, 91, a resident of Los Alamos since 1947, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 12, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Lehman Sr.; son, Charles A. Lehman Jr.; and brother, Seth Baldwin.

Marylee was such a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, and was a very good seamstress. Marylee would make some of her children's and grandchildren's clothing. She enjoyed baking and one of her favorite things was baking cream puffs. No matter what holiday we were celebrating, she went all out decorating.
