HAROLD D. FERGUSON Jan. 6, 1932–Feb. 18, 2014

Harold D. Ferguson, 82, a 46-year resident of Los Alamos, died at his home Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. He suffered for several years with Parkinson’s disease. 

A mechanical engineer, Harold worked at the LAMP facility at the Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1967 until his retirement in 1990. From 1973 until 1994, he and his wife, Alta Lou, were half-owners of the Royal Crest Mobile Home Park in Los Alamos. In 1994, the Fergusons purchased and upgraded the Las Tiendias de Corrales Shopping Center in Albuquerque.

Virginia “Gini” Delores Durmaj Prenzno, 86, of Great Falls, Mont., passed away Feb. 15, 2014 following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Chicago, Ill., it is where she met, fell in love and married Richard Durmaj. Together, they raised a family and in 1966, moved to Los Alamos, NM where she managed a gift shop and worked as a secretary at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

In the late 70’s, they made the move to Phoenix, Ariz., to be closer to family.

In loving memory. Douglas Warren Fraser, 72, died in his home in the early morning of February 15, 2014, surrounded by loving family members and friends. Doug’s heart was always with the environment and the “critters.” He loved the outdoors, skiing, hiking, sailing, camping, horseback riding, and river running. He guided his own boat through the Grand Canyon four times.

Doug was born in Hackensack, NJ on September 21, 1941 to Frances Van Valkenburg and Robert T. Fraser.

Stewart spent the majority of his childhood growing up in the Glorieta and Pecos, New Mexico areas. His parents later moved to Three Rivers, New Mexico, where Stewart graduated from Tularosa High School in 1947.

Ruth Louise Bull Demuth died peacefully at home on December 27, 2013 at the age of 82, from Alzheimer’s Disease and its associated complications. She spent the past several years being cared for by Thomas Alfred Sandford, her loving husband of 33 years, and many of her children, grandchildren, friends and caregivers.

Ray was born on October 25, 1930 in Winthrop, Maine, the son of Charles and Julia (Currier) Guerette.

Ray graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn in 1949. He commuted from Winthrop to Auburn daily with his high school football coach. This arrangement was made because his coach realized that Ray had talent and wanted to expose him to Division 1 coaches.

Wilbert "Walt" Henry Meyers, 92, passed away December 13, 2013. Walt was born on July 20, 1921 in McPherson, Kansas to John and Amelia Meyer.

Walt met his wife, Mary Louise Hoefer when they were juniors in high school in Salina, Kansas. Their first date was a movie, and they were together for over 70 years. Walt and Mary were married December 4, 1942 in Washington D.C., where Walt was stationed in the Army. They raised six children, had ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Samuel Lee Yarbro, 24, of Los Alamos, died on Sunday, December 15, 2013 as the result of injuries sustained from a tragic accident in Los Angeles, CA.

He was a PhD student in the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) school of Materials Science and Engineering planning a career researching and developing electronic materials. Samuel was born in Los Alamos on March 27, 1987, a gift from God, to parents, Stephen and Tresa Yarbro.

William “Bill” Wayne Hodges of Los Alamos, NM died April 21, 2013. He was a long time resident of Los Alamos, New Mexico and spent 30 plus years working at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Bill worked in MEC Division main shops of the laboratory machining, supervising, training, mentoring and building parts for various specialty jobs requested by the lab and Department of Energy. He was responsible for creating the machinist apprentice program for the lab and was very proud of the accomplishment.

Darrell Patrick (Bosco) Hohner passed away at home in Los Alamos, N.M. on December 5, 2013. He was eighty-one years of age. He was born to Fred W. Hohner and Myrtle Hohner (Keenan) of St. John, Kansas on August 17, 1932.

Bosco moved to Los Alamos with his parents and sister, Nancy, in 1946. He graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1950, was active in sports, and excelled in his favorite sport of baseball. He was employed by Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and spent nearly forty years employed with the Laboratory.

Alice Brigham Waterman, age 94, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, December 4, with family by her side. She had just spent a joyous Thanksgiving holiday with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even a great-great granddaughter. She had struggled for eight months with declining health after breaking an ankle and being diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma.

Alice was born on July 14, 1919 in Niagara Falls, Canada. She was the oldest of two girls born to Royal Brigham and his wife Helen Knapp Brigham.

World-renowned astrophysicist Dimitri Mihalas passed away in his sleep at his home on November 21, 2013 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Dr. Mihalas retired from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999 and from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2011. Dimitri, to his friends and family, has donated his body to the University of New Mexico Medical School and his library to New Mexico Tech.

Former New Mexico Republican gubernatorial candidate John Dendahl, 75, died Saturday. He was undergoing treatment for leukemia.

Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman John Billingsley issued the following statement in regard to the passing of Dendahl who also was a former chairman of the RPNM:
