BLM To Host Public Meetings Seeking Comment On Environmental Impacts Of SunZia Southwest Transmission Project

SANTA FE — The Bureau of Land Management has opened a 90-day public comment period on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement prepared to analyze the potential environmental impacts associated with the proposed SunZia Southwest Transmission Project.

The comment period began April 29 and ends Aug. 1. The BLM has also scheduled three virtual public meetings.

“We are pleased to give the public an opportunity to provide their input on this project and attend the virtual public meetings to learn about the project,” said BLM New Mexico State Director Melanie Barnes.

Churro Sheep Shearing Event At Los Luceros Historic Site

The community is invited to join expert sheep-shearer Kerry Mower 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 11, as he brings his traditional shears to the coats of Los Luceros Historic Site (LLHS) and observe how Española Fiber Arts skirt the wool to clean and choose the best wool for weaving.

Additionally, LLHS will hold a Ranger Talk about the history of Churro sheep in New Mexico at 11 a.m. and create some Churro sheep wool crafts.
