Road Closure For Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run July 4

Canyon Road will be closed approximately 8-9:30 a.m. Monday, July 4 from 15th Street to Central Avenue continued to Los Alamos High School for The Family YMCA’s Independence Day Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run.

There also will be traffic control on 15th Street from Iris Street to Canyon Road and on Canyon Road from Central Avenue to Los Alamos High School.

Fire resources on the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fires are being released due to the decrease in fire activity.

The Camino Real Ranger District on the Carson National Forest and Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District on the Santa Fe National Forest remain closed as firefighters continue to work on suppression repair across the entire fire area.

New Mexico Public Regulation Commission Votes To Require PNM To Reflect Savings From Coal Closure

Sierra Club News: 

The Public Regulation Commission (PRC) voted 5-0 Wednesday that PNM violated the ETA. The Commission agreed with environmental and consumer groups and blocked PNM’s plan to keep charging customers for San Juan Generating Station expenses long after the plant is closed.

The commission also required PNM to issue the community and worker money that the Energy Transition bonds would fund immediately when the coal plant closes.

The ruling means the average PNM customers will see a bill savings of more than $8 per month, and hundreds of dollars over the next 18 months.

ALBUQUERQUE — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host an additional, virtual public meeting to hear comments regarding oil and gas lease sale decisions made by the Rio Puerco and Farmington field offices.

National Park Tourism In New Mexico Creates $195 Million In Economic Benefit

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 2,449,307 visitors to national parks in the state of New Mexico spent $156,200,000 in the state in 2021.

That spending resulted in 2,076 jobs and had a cumulative benefit to the state economy of $195,700,000.

The peer-reviewed visitor spending analysis was conducted by economists at the National Park Service and the U.S. Geological Survey. The report shows $20.5 billion of direct spending by more than 297 million park visitors in communities within 60 miles of a national park. This spending supported 322,600 jobs Read More
