LAPS News:

Back in the fall, the construction site at Barranca Elementary School was filled with piles of dirt.

Since then, progress on the project at 57 Loma Del Escolar has been moving full steam ahead, with the addition of steel beams and concrete flooring. The end result will be a new two-story classroom building for first through sixth grades, as well as a cafeteria and administrative offices.

AZTEC – New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas will unveil an active shooter response technology Wednesday, Jan. 23 that will be the first of its kind in the state.

The Rave Panic Button interoperable communications network will be unveiled and implemented at Aztec High School (AHS), the site of a tragic and deadly school shooting in December 2017.

Finance New Mexico: Workshop Helps New Businesses Understand Tax Law

New employers can find it confusing to navigate New Mexico’s system for computing, reporting and paying business taxes. But the state Tax and Revenue Department expects them to figure it out and comply.
 
To simplify the process, the TRD offers free workshops, including one in Albuquerque Jan. 28 that promises to give new employers an overview of state tax laws, walk them through basic legal requirements for workers’ compensation insurance and workplace safety and show them how to add up what they owe on the sales of products or services.

SANTA FE – Santa Fe Community College and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

No classes or activities will be held and no other student services will be available. Both campuses will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 22, which is the first day of classes for the spring semester for SFCC.

During its meeting Tuesday evening, the Los Alamos School Board recognized teachers who received their National Board Certifications, including Rebecca Cabildo, Kate Hovey, Britt Williams and Janelle Maestas. Science Saturday Goes On The Road … And Hooks Up With A Tornado

ALAMOGORDO ― Science Saturday has been moved to today, Jan. 13, at the Otero County Fairgrounds as part of the German Air Force Tornado event slated to begin at noon.
